2023-2024 Episodes

Ep. 419 - Ys X: Nordics | Review
Release Date: 11/16/24 Runtime: 22:48
Games Shown:

PlayStation 5 - Ys X: Nordics

Notes:
*Guest starring Johnny Millennium aka Happy Console Gamer in the end sketch.

*I finished the game and the next day decided I wanted to do a video review. The entire episode was produced in 3 days, including all of the game capture. Might be the quickest I ever made an episode. Finished editing about 9 hours before release. Both Johnny and I shot our end sketch scenes about 12 hours before the episode's release.

*Made during the production of episode 423.

Notes:
*Did anyone notice that the end skit looks like it was recorded from a broadcast with the antenna "reflections" and whatnot? All done in editing.

Ep. 417 - Better Than the Arcade

Notes:
*I was gonna include Choplifter in this episode and even recorded both versions, but eventually decided against it since the home version is only marginally better. The Jackal segment has many references to Choplifter as that was made before the Choplifter segment was cut.

PC - Eastern Mind Lost Souls of Tong Nou

Notes:
*Yoshi Vu did the aging for the end skit. Originally it was done with an actual mask which is why I kind of lock into place. It didn't turn out well which is why I asked Yoshi for help. I would've done it more differently had I known it could be done digitally.

Notes:
*Neither Coury or I had much sleep at all before shooting the onscreen parts. A lot of time was spent shooting the end sketch.

*This might be the first time the talking head segments have been shot before any of the gameplay was recorded and written.

PlayStation - Lunar Silver Star Story Complete
Gamecube - Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2
Xbox - Super Monkey Ball Deluxe

Notes:
*I didn't want to include Virtua Fighter in this episode as I had already included one Virtua game. Maybe next time. I also debated about including Batman Returns on the NES, but I have limited experience with that one and the one time I did play it, I died on the first boss. One life, no continues. So I can't yet objectively say it's a great game or anything. *The end sketch is from 1992.

Genesis - Atomic Runner, Master of Monsters

Notes:
*Been a while since I did a Left in Japan. People didn't seem to miss it much as this one absolutely flopped. It'll probably be a long while before I do another one.

Pro Tennis, Ishin no Arashi, Just Breed, Metal Slader Glory, Shin 4-Nin Uchi Mahjong, Uchuu Keibitai SDF, Gimmick!

Notes:
*The song at the end is generated by AI, but the lyrics were written by me (obviously). I had to cut and paste a lot of it as some words did not get enunciated at all, so I had to regenerate and hope it said the word correctly. Sometimes it did, but the music was different because AI just kind of does its own thing. It was more of a pain than you might think, but I think the sketch is fun.

Ep. 405 - Top 10 TurboGrafx-16 Games
Release Date: 5/26/24 Runtime: 31:11
Games Shown:

TurboGrafx-16 - Bonk's Revenge, R-Type, Devil's Crush, Soldier Blade, Bloody Wolf, Splatterhouse, Lords of Thunder, The Legendary Axe, Ys Book 1&2, Dracula X: Rondo of Blood

Notes:
*This episode is a test to see if people like this kind of stuff. I assume they do, but time will tell. It was incredibly fun to make since I love each and every one of the games, but man it was tough deciding!

Notes:
*This episode was extremely fun to make as it gave me an excuse to really contrast and compare the audio, which I love to do. If people don't like it, oh well.

Notes:
*This episode was made after the PlayStation widescreen video underperformed, and then released as early as possible as a bonus episode since I figured it probably wouldn't do very well either.

Notes:
*I really enjoy covering technical stuff like this, it feels nobody ever gives games that do this their due.

Notes:
*Released only a couple of days after I finished making the episode, which is unusual for me. Just wanted to be timely since the firmware would obviously advance.

*I always love making ridiculous sketches like the tower of power one included here.

Notes:
*It was fun doing an episode which is basically the opposite of the usual 2D to 3D jumps.

Games Shown:

Arcade - Rampage, BlaZeon, Alien Storm, Time Soldiers, Vigilante

Notes:
*I love doing these episodes, as arcade games have always been extremely interesting to me. I do wish the SNES had more arcade ports though as these episodes can start to feel a little anti-Nintendo at times.

Notes:
*There were a lot more games in this episode than I thought there'd be.

*I've always wanted to do something that focuses on how the cable bizarrely disconnects from the Saturn analog controller, and the end sketch let me do that.

Ep. 395 - Left in North America 4
Release Date: 1/21/24 Runtime: 27:37
Games Shown:

NES - Mad Max, Contra Force
Genesis - Mary Shelly's Frankenstein
SNES - Mary Shelly's Frankenstein
Sega CD - Mary Shelly's Frankenstein
PlayStation - NASCAR Rumble, Fox Hunt
Nintendo DS - Monster Tale

Notes:
*I probably enjoyed making the Fox Hunt end sketch parody look like PlayStation video a bit too much. Content-wise, it's just as nonsensical as the actual game.

*I did contact Andrew Bowen and glean a little bit of info about Fox Hunt which I used in the video. He suggested I interview him. At first I was reluctant because I suck at interviewing, or at least I feel that I do. I eventually came up with some fun questions that I thought people would enjoy which also would've looked more at Andrew's career, and he agreed to the interview. He was pretty noncommittal over the next two months so I gave up. I think the segment is still pretty good without it.

Notes:
*Brand new intro! I spent 5 days nonstop in Photoshop which was mirrored to my iPad drawing (tracing) the frames with an Apple Pencil.

*Both the intro and outro music has been refreshed by Brimaxian!

Release Date: 12/11/23 Runtime: 18:06
Games Shown:

TurboGrafx-16, PC-Engine Turbo Duo, etc - Various games for demonstrative purposes.

Notes:
*Released a week early because the next episode (Analogue Duo review) is embargoed until December 11, so that episode comes out that morning. I didn't wanna have two episodes released so close together. I wanted this one to have at least a little life of its own.

Notes:
*I've gotta stop making these all-encompassing episodes like this! It's exhausting! But they're fun to do and I like making something that could be used almost as an encyclopedia by others in the future.

Notes:
*I was really able to step up my emulation game thanks to a new Windows PC dedicated to doing nonsense like that, which allows me to show more complex games. Don't get me wrong, I don't use it for day to day stuff. Blech!

*Another super long episode.

*The end skit is a parody of the Youtube channel called Console Wars. It was actually shot for episode 380 but moved here as it was more appropriate for this episode since it deals with the Arcade Card version of Art of Fighting. The end skit that was originally attached to this episode was moved and will appear on episode 380.

Games Shown:

TurboGrafx-16 - Various games on card and CD to illustrate the Turbo EverDrive Pro in action.

Notes:
*The end skit is more "edutainment" than anything. I really hope it helps people learn how to spell TurboGrafx properly... because they rarely do.

*Bonus episode.

Ep. 370 - Games that Push Hardware Limits 10
Release Date: 04/02/23 Runtime: 31:58
Games Shown:

TurboGrafx-16 - Falcon, Gunboat
SNES - Race Drivin', StarFox, StarFox 2, Stunt Race FX, Dirt Trax FX, Vortex, Dirt Racer, Doom, Out of this World, Flashback, Steel Talons, Drakken, Dragon View

Notes:
*This episode focuses on 3D polygons on consoles in the 16-bit era.

*No humans appear on camera in this episode. Well except for the couple in the end sketch and my hands when showing the SuperFX and SVP chips.

*I originally had a normal intro, appeared on camera between segments and had a completely different end sketch. Yoshi Vu asked if he could help. I gave him some ideas for an end sketch. He sent me some low-poly renders so I replaced the talking head segments with those. Then for no reason he sent a dancing low poly Joe over. So I picked some good dance moves and created the first part of the end sketch, though Yoshi rendered them. Yoshi created the second part of the end sketch based on a music video he likes. Then we kept talking and replaced the intro.

Ep. 369 - Every Game for the SNES Superscope and SEGA Menacer

Sega CD - Corpse Killer, Crime Patrol, Mad Dog McCree, Mad Dog 2, Who Shot Johnny Rock?
32X CD - Corpse Killer

Notes:
*12th Anniversary episode! The first episode of Game Sack was released 2 days shy of 12 years ago to this one.

*The end skit was thought up on the spot. The only thing we knew going into it is that it would be an "Impress Your Friends" entry.

*Getting the Menacer to work was a huge pain. Sometimes it would work, sometimes it wouldn't. Had to buy another Menacer from eBay. Getting the SuperScope to work was also a chore as it had to be captured with RGB, but Dave doesn't have an RGB-capable CRT monitor. SuperScope games must be played on a CRT for them to work, obviously. So we just used the luma cable connected to the composite input of his TV, split that and then that went into a RetroTink 5x. That's right, Dave had to play these games in black and white while capturing.

Ep. 368 - The Nintendo 64DD
Release Date: 03/19/23 Runtime: 32:29
Games Shown:

Nintendo 64DD - Randnet Disk, Sim City 64, Doshin the Giant 1, Doshin the Giant Tinkling Toddler Liberation Front! Assemble!, Mario Artist - Paint Studio, Mario Artist - Talent Studio, Mario Artist - Polygon Studio, Mario Artist - Commnications Kit, Japan Pro Tour Golf 64, F-Zero X Expansion Kit
Gamecube - Doshin the Giant

Notes:
*This was a fun episode to do, much more so than I thought it would be. I had to replace a ribbon cable on the 64DD after disassembling it for the stop motion animation. Now I have 6 spare ribbon cables.

Ep. 367 - Games that Make the Console Look Weak 4
Release Date: 03/5/23 Runtime: 28:47
Games Shown:

PC Engine - Batman
Genesis - Curse, Super Thunder Blade, Battlemaster, Chase HQ 2, Turbo Out Run
SNES - Rapjam Volume 1, Bronkie the Brontosaurus
Game Boy Color - Test Drive Off-Road 3
PlayStation 2 - London Cab Challenge

Notes:
*After I had edited the Bronkie the Brontosaurus segment, I redid it with the Monster Truck yelling voice (whatever you wanna call it) in a similar fashion to how I did F-16 Fighting Falcon in a previous episode about weak games. But it ended up not being that funny, so I left the segment as it currently is.

Ep. 366 - Same Name, Different Game 3
Release Date: 02/19/23 Runtime: 43:51
Games Shown:

Arcade - Jurassic Park, Ninja Gaiden

Game Gear - Ninja Gaiden, Taz-Mania
SNES - Jurassic Park, RoboCop vs The Terminator, Taz-Mania, Sparkster
Sega CD - Jurassic Park
Xbox - Ninja Gaiden
PlayStation 3 - Castle of Illusion

Notes:
*I had lots of fun doing the skeleton end skit, mainly because it's so absurd.

*There is an editing error around 5 minutes and 20 seconds in, during the Jurassic Park arcade part. The sound repeats/plays lower and there is a black screen. I remember going back a few weeks after I had completed the epsiode to update the Jurassic Park arcade section. I don't recall the information that I was changing/updating, but apparently in the process a few things got shifted and the minor glitch now exists on Youtube forever!

Master System - Cyborg Hunter
Genesis - Beyond Oasis
SNES - Skyblazer, Final Fight 3

Notes:
*I had to play through Cyborg Hunter twice because of the bug mentioned in the episode, but that gave me a good opportunity to capture it being played in both PSG and FM sound. No regrets!

Notes:
*I've been wanting to do this since I did the Nintendo 64 Expansion Pak episode. I originally intended to wait a bit longer, but I couldn't wait and just went ahead and made the episode.
